Lesson Plan using Hot Potatoes but No Computer

2.      Understanding meaning in short functional texts and monologues of reports, narrative, and analytical exposition in daily lives.

6.      Expressing meaning in short written functional texts and simple essays of reports, narrative, and analytical exposition in daily lives.

B.      Basic Competences
2.2     Responding meaning in monolog text which is using a variety of spoken language accurately, fluently, and acceptable in daily context through form of text: reports, narrative, and analytical exposition.
6.2     Expressing meaning and steps of rhetoric in essays by using a variety of written language accurately, fluently, and acceptable in daily context through form of text: reports, narrative and analytical exposition.

Listening and Reading Session (Narrative text):
     
Orientation
The Gruffalo Movie
         It is a short movie which tells about a cunning mouse. This movie is from children’s book. There was a mouse which went for a walk in the forest. On his way the mouse met several dangerous animals, a fox, an owl, and a snake which clearly intending to eat the mouse. The cunning mouse declined each offer and told that he had plans to dine with his friend, a gruffalo, a monster-like a half of grizzly bear and half buffalo. Those dangerous animals got frightened that the gruffalo might eat them, each animal flees. Besides that, the gruffalo is fictional which was made by the mouse himself.

Complication
         After getting rid of the last animal, the mouse was shocked to come across a real gruffalo. The gruffalo wanted to eat him, but again the mouse was cunning.
Resolution
The mouse told the gruffalo that he was the scariest animal in the forest. Laughing, the gruffalo agreed to follow the mouse as he demonstrates how feared he was. They met again those animals, a fox, an owl, and a snake, and then those were very frightened and ran off. Exploiting this, the mouse threatened to eat the gruffalo. Then, the gruffalo fled.

Set Induction (5’)

-        Teacher gives several questions related to topic will be discussed.
-        Teacher asks students to prepare the networked computers
Main  I (Listening Session)
Observation: Pre-Listening (10’)
-        Students tell about some stories that they have known.
-        Students are given some pictures through power point according to the following movie.
-        Students share their opinion about what the pictures will tell about.
-        With teacher’s guidance, students ask about the movie which will be played.
-        Students share what they have found out from the discussion.
      Collecting data: Main Listening (30’)
-        Students watch the movie once.
-        While watching, students are taking notes.
      Analysing: Post Listening (15’)
-        Students share their opinions about the movie.
-        Students share their understanding about the story.
-        Each students’ understanding is tested on online test as homework.

Main II (Writing Session)
      Summarising (40’)
-        Students discuss about the answer of online test. 
-    Students summarise the movie as synopsis, according to the guiding questions.
-      Students submit the summary via email.
Set Closure (5’)
-        Teacher and students conclude what they have learnt today in the class.
-        Teacher tells about the following meeting.
